The Wahlby Lab (http://www.cb.uu.se/~carolina/) at the Centre for Image Analysis, Dept. of Information Technology and Science for Life Laboratory att Uppsala University, Sweden, is looking for candidates for a PhD position in Computerized Image Processing with focus on analysis of tissue data.
Digital imaging of medical tissue samples and genetic analysis by next generation sequencing are two rapidly emerging fields in pathology. The goal of this project financed by the European Research Council (https://erc.europa.eu/), is to develop computational methods that bridge these two emerging fields by combining spatially resolved high-throughput genomics analysis of tissue sections with digital image analysis of tissue morphology.
The PhD candidate will be involved in the development of advanced methods for digital image processing and data mining, but also collaborate closely with researchers form the biomedical field, involving some practical work such as image acquisition. Good programming skills are required and expertise in digital image processing and analysis is meriting. Some of the work involves CellProfiler, and experience from using this software, as well as a strong interest in cell biology, biomedicine and histopathology is meriting.
