Thickness in thin objects

I’m new to image processing and I’ve encountered a problem I can’t solve. I’m attacking a problem where I need to measure the thickness of very thin objects, like a sheet of paper for example. Attached I send an image of some objects, which I need to estimate the thickness, which in general measure 0.38 mm. I used a coin (to define the pixel size). The object is placed in a “box”, the big problem is that these flakes are curved so this approach is very naive. I started studying scikit image and saw that it is very robust. Does anyone have experience in this type of problem? Thank’s.

I think you need medial_axis, distance_transform
