Slow running of plugin


I created a plugin for Fiji as a school project. When I run plugin in my laptop with dual core processor Intel Core i5 2.40 GHz it takes about 3 minutes. I tried to run plugin on school server. I excepted plugin would be faster, because server is more powerful than my laptop. It has 36-core processor AMD Opteron 6348 2.80 GHz. But plugin took about 7 minut. When I run here any other program, it is much faster than in my laptop. How is possible my plugin in Fiji is so slow? Thank you.

To try and determine possible causes for the slowdown, we want to look at “what’s different between these two environments?”

First things to investigate:

  1. Are both Fiji installations fully up to date?
  2. What operating system is being used?
  3. Do both installations have similar memory and threads settings?
  4. Does performance change if memory and/or thread count is increased?
  5. What version of Java is being used?
  6. Does performance change if launched with a different Java version?

Sorry, I should have given more information about it. I will try to fix it now.
I execute Fiji in headless mode because school server does not support GUI. So I could not
find out some information you ask me.

There are answers:

  1. Yes both installations are updated.
  2. school server - Debian GNU/Linux
    laptop - Fedora 20 (Heisenbug)
  3. laptop - maximum memory 1811 MB
    parallel threads: 2
    school server - maximum memory: ?

  4. No, it does not.
  5. laptop: Java 1.6.0_24
    server: I don’t know, how to find it out
  6. I can not change Java version.
