Question about Ellipse Measurements

Hi,

I have a question about the measurements that are given via ROI Manager. I was interested in the Ellipse Elongation measurement for my specific project because I am studying the effect of stretch on tubules of a kidney.

I originally thought the ellipse elongation measurement would indicate how stretched the tubule was but my values were found to be greater than 1, which would be a problem if this calculation is based off eccentricity of an ellipse. So I was just hoping for some clarification.

Thank you!

Best,

Maria

Hi
@MariaF
I don’t understand what you’re doing then …

Thank you for your response @Mathew! Those links were helpful, however I am still unable to clarify what exactly ellipse elongation measures.

Hi
@MariaF

I don’t understand what you are referring to!

What is the nature of physical greatness?
Which program do you use?
Give us an example: image; marco, etc.

Are you referring to this?

Hi
@Mathew

I apologize for the lack of detail, I am very new to this forum. I used Segmentation Editor in Fiji where I uploaded a stack of multiphoton images of a kidney sample. I used Segmentation Editor to trace a tubule through the stack and then import that selection into ROI Manager, where I used the Measure 3D function, which would give me set measurements, such as volume, area, etc. One of those values that I thought could be useful is Ell_Elon, I assumed this to be ellipse elongation. My question was, what is this a measurement of. I attached a screen shot of the 3D measure page for reference.
