Postdoctoral Scientist in High-Content Biology - Discovery Sciences Job
As a postdoctoral scientist in Discovery Sciences at Janssen, you will be a key member of a dynamic and collaborative team, responsible for developing and applying “omics”-scale cellular high-content imaging approaches to progress drug discovery efforts. We are looking for highly motivated candidates that show initiative and the ability to work independently. The ability to deliver reproducible high-quality results, and troubleshooting skills in assay biology and experimental design, are essential. She/he needs to have a sense of urgency, be well organized, and adhere to project timelines. An excellent scientific track record is critical. Experience in drug discovery, pharmacology and/or toxicology is a plus.
You will initially be assigned to a three-year R&D project to develop leading-edge methods in high-content analysis and biology, and apply them to industry-scale research. You are expected to design, execute, analyze, and report the experiments, and work in a systematic manner to establish a robust, high-quality research tool. The work will be done in collaboration with Janssen biologists and bio-informaticians, and with our external partners. The position will offer an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in cellular pharmacology and establish yourself as a scientific expert in high-content analysis. The candidate is expected to publish his/her research.
Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Design and execute large scale high-content imaging experiments.
- Interpret, troubleshoot and report large-scale, multi-parametric data.
- Manage multifaceted large-scale “omics” projects.
- Analyze and present data in a professional format.
- Keep up-to-date in the literature related to his/her field. Act as an expert resource in his/her scientific field and in related disciplines.
Skills and Competencies
Advanced skills in high-content imaging/screening are essential.
Cellular and molecular biology skills including transfection, transduction, westernblotting, immuno precipitation, siRNA/shRNA gene knockdown, qRT-PCR, FACS, and gene-editing.
Ability to perform tissue culture is a must.
Personalskills and Competencies:
Intellectually curious with demonstrated creativity and novel thinking to solving scientific problems.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multi-faceted large projects effectively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to effectively present scientific data and concepts to international standards.
Education and Experience:
Education:Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology
Related Experience:Knowledgeable in advanced microscopy techniques, automated image analysis and experience with phenotypic assays. Drug discovery experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment is a plus.
