OMERO passwords

Hi everyone.

When the OMERO installation is working, is there a standardized way to change the main root password and/or the PostgreSQL database password?

Thanks by advance, Marc.

Hi Marc,

When logged in as root itself, this can be done via the UI or the CLI. Alternatively as an admin you can use:

omero db password

to generate the SQL to update the password directly. (You will need to run the SQL with psql)

Any of these mechanisms can be used with a running OMERO.

The database password will require an OMERO restart. I’d suggest:

  • omero admin stop
  • omero config set omero.db.password new_password
  • psql … -c "ALTER USER yourdbuser WITH PASSWORD ‘new_password’ "
  • omero admin start

since I’ve not tested changing the password with a running server. It might work. The steps could be:

  • omero config set omero.db.password new_password
  • psql … -c "ALTER USER yourdbuser WITH PASSWORD ‘new_password’ "
  • omero admin restart

which would have less downtime if it works.

All the best,
~Josh
