I am trying to quantify the number of neighboring cells surrounding each cell in my ROI (Local Cell Density). So far what I have done is identify my nuclei, shrink them to their centers, and defined a “neighborhood” within which to search for “neighbors.”
My trouble is in taking into account the smaller neighborhoods of cells close to the edge of my FOV, so I want to normalize the number of neighbors to the area of the neighborhood. How can I find the area of each cell’s neighborhood?
I tried expanding my objects to the size of the search distance to then measure the area of these expanded objects but my cells are too close to each other and stop expanding before the full search radius is reached.
Does anyone have a way to measure the area of a neighborhood? Also, any comments/suggestions on my method would be appreciated. Thanks!
