Managing a parent pom

My Fiji plugins and their internal dependencies got so complex that I decided that I need more serious dev-ops and decided to make a parent pom just for my own stuff (WIP):

This works great, and I was only wondering how you update the version numbers in the parent pom? I was thinking of a shell script that goes through all the dependencies in the parent pom and looks for the corresponding pom.xml files on my hard-disk and replaces the version in the parent pom by whatever the version is the respective pom on my computer. But somehow we felt that there should be a more professional (maven driven) way of doing this? Maven should be able to know the latest versions of all the dependencies on my computer, because I install them. But I do not know how to ask maven to put them into the parent pom for me…

Sorry for the delay in reply, @Christian_Tischer.

Manually. I wrote custom tooling to report what updates are available for pom-scijava:

You may find the versions:display-dependency-updates goal useful.

You could try using the versions:use-latest-releases goal. I have not had great luck with it, but it claims to be able to do that for you.

Thanks for your reply! That’s what we ended up doing as well.
