Janssen Pharmaceuticals Companies of Johnson & Johnson are recruiting for a Senior Scientist - High Content Imaging and Screening to be located in La Jolla, CA
Janssen Pharmaceuticals Companies of Johnson & Johnson are dedicated to addressing and solving the most important unmet medical needs of our time, including
immunology, neuroscience, infectious disease, oncology and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Driven by our commitment to patients, we develop sustainable, integrated
healthcare solutions by working side-by-side with healthcare stakeholders, based on partnerships of trust and transparency.
The Senior Scientist - High Content Imaging and Screening, will work as a member of a group providing high throughput screening data to support new lead identification, in
vitro pharmacology and target identification and validation needs by working with Therapeutic Area project teams. The Sr. Scientist will focus on strategic assay and screen
design, assay development/optimization, image analysis and automated data analysis for high content cell based assays, phenotypic and physiologically relevant systems. This
individual will be a member of a laboratory focused on cell based high throughput screening and assay development, and will support the image based screening efforts of
multiple therapeutic areas and scientific initiatives. Special consideration will be given to candidates with emphasis in neuroscience, immunology and/or oncology backgrounds.
The Sr. Scientist will design, validate and deliver high quality in vitro screening data from high content imaging based pharmacology screens to drive lead series identification,
optimization and drug candidate selection. The Sr. Scientist will be asked to bring strategic insight into the screen design, ensure robust decision-making that is appropriate for
the biological challenges of image based and phenotypic assays, and enable the investigation of molecular mechanisms of actions. He/she will serve as a point of contact for
the drug discovery project teams. Applicants must have a strong scientific background in high content imaging and cell biology, computational image analysis and drug
discovery data analysis. The candidate will possess strong collaborative, organizational and communication skills be able to concurrently balance multiple projects with
Therapeutic Area partners. The Sr. Scientist should demonstrate personal leadership within the group, scientific leadership both at the bench and at computational data
analysis, and be adept at multi-tasking.
The Senior Scientist – High Content Imaging and Screening should be experienced in high content imaging and phenotypic in vitro assay development. This individual will lead
local and global High Content Screening projects. S/he will design and implement image analysis routines using commercial and open-source software packages. S/he will
support molecular mechanism of action identification. S/he will maintain a ‘state-of the art’ awareness of new technology advances (i.e. cytof, superResolution), computational
modeling system developments, and scientific knowledge in the field and apply these where appropriate. The Senior Scientist in High Content Imaging and Screening will
promote Janssen High Content Screening capabilities and reputation through external publications and presentations.
A minimum of a PhD or equivalent with postdoctoral experience and 3+ years of relevant experience in high content imaging, cell biology, and/or pharmacology are required.
Experience in designing and developing high content cell based screening assays, phenotypic assays, data analysis, QC, and visualization is required. Prior experience in a
laboratory working as part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel therapeutic agents is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are
required. A sustained track record of delivering high quality science as demonstrated through peer reviewed publications is required. Proficiency in multiparametric HCS
analysis, QC, and automated data management is required. Experience in Columbus based image analysis software is preferred. Experience in flow cytometry is preferred.
The successful candidate should possess excellent writing and communication skills. The successful candidate should be familiar with the use of robotics and automation in the
performance of screening. Experience with physiologically relevant cell based assay formats including Human primary cells, 3D culture, organoid and IPS cells are required.
