The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on Neurodegenerative Diseases. The center includes nine high-performing sites in Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.

The DZNE in Bonn offers a position as

Image and Data Analysis Specialist (f/m) – Code 1188/2013/6

to support the Image and Data Analysis Facility (IDAF). The IDAF is equipped with several software tools for advanced image analysis and statistics for large data sets. The IDAF is part of the existing DZNE Core Facilities and will serve scientists at the DZNE for clinical and preclinical research.

The candidate will support the IDAF in developing services for quantitative image analysis in life science research for the scientists at the DZNE.

Qualification and experience:

Bachelor or Master Degree in Scientific Programming, Physics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines or education as mathematical technical assistant (“Mathematisch-Technischer Assistent”)
Background in image analysis and/or data mining
Programming experience in Matlab or R
Programming experience in Java or C++
Fluency in written and oral English language
Willingness to communicate with researchers in an interdisciplinary environment.
Strong interest in biomedical research
Programming skills in ImageJ Macro Language, Python, Definiens Developer as well as experience in distributed programming and database development are an asset but not a requirement.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will support scientists in image analysis, statistics and data analysis. This includes the development and implementation of customized image analysis routines (in ImageJ, Matlab, Definiens Developer) and the training of scientists in image analysis software (ImageJ, Definiens, Imaris, Amira, Huygens Deconvolution , etc.). Moreover, he/she will do statistical analysis and data mining service and write project reports in English language. Finally, he/she will participate in development and maintenance of infrastructure for data handling and data analysis.
