Depth-wise distribution of a 3D object

Hello all,

Can anyone suggest a technique to distribute the resulting objects of an object counter or particle analyzer on the basis of depth? I have thousands of 3D pores of various diameters on a 50 cm long column but I do not know how I can classify them based on depth.
I would appreciate any kind of help in this.
