Biofilm Roughness

Following segmentation, there are some results generated and can we use those results to show the differences in biofilms?
for example can we show the difference in roughness between biofilms by using the bars obtained following segmentation?
or should we use the 3D scatter plot to depict the roughness of biofilms??

Hi Srinivas,

the results generated purely by segmentation are limited compared to what you can measure in the parameter calculation tab. Specifically, if you want to compare the roughness of biofilms, try the “Surface propertes” module, which will give you local as well as global measures for the roughness.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

Best,

Hannah

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for the response for my other posts.
Regarding, biofilm roughness, if there is more roughness, it indicates the biofilm is heterogenous.
If these is less roughness, it indicates the biofilm is homogenous.
am I correct??

Hi Srinivas,

yes, a high biofilm roughness indicates a heterogeneous height distribution throughout the biofilm. The “smoother” the overall surface of the biofilm, the smaller the roughness coefficient.
