In the MeasureObjectAreaShape Module, within the Manual we can not find the explanation of the feature: Orientation, what does it represent, how is computed and what is the unit? (Is it counterclockwise or clockwise angle of what?)
Many of the features measured by CellProfiler are based on built-in Matlab functions. This is one of them, so the description provided by Matlab is accurate:
‘Orientation’ — Scalar; the angle (in degrees) between the x-axis and the major axis of the ellipse that has the same second-moments as the region.
For future reference, you can find descriptions of other measurements here:
mathworks.com/access/helpdes … props.html
We will add this information to the CellProfiler help so it’s easy for others to find in the future!
Thank you very much!
